Kings Of Leon on 'Only By The Night'

Hot stuff coming through! The mighty Kings Of Leon came into Xfm to speak to John Kennedy about their new album 'Only By The Night'. Listen here for the track by track analysis by the band.
Five years ago three brothers and their first cousin dropped on to the rock scene from a faraway place named Tennessee with nothing but pure naivity and a stunning debut record to hand. Today however, Kings Of Leon are one of the planet's biggest bands, now with four fine albums and a headlining slot at Glastonbury in their history.
'Only By The Night' is their latest effort, and Jared and Matthew Followill popped by Xfm to give John Kennedy the full rundown. Listen to the answers below...
'Closer'
"It's about vampires... I would definitely choose to be one if they were real." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Crawl'
"The inspiration came from touring with Queens Of The Stone Age... We made a conscious effort to write a couple of those kind of songs." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Sex On Fire'
"We never imagined it would do as good as it's doing right now. I guess people like it." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Use Somebody'
"It's the best song we've done maybe in our career." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Manhattan'

'Revelry'

'17'
"Angelo (producer) brought in these giant bells from the 30s or something, and Matthew would not let us leave that studio without putting them on at least one song." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Notion'
"I just tried to make the most boring instrument somewhat memorable... They called me Lead Bass." [Listen To Full Answer]
'I Want You'
"This was written in our rehearsal space, and I've litterally got it documented.... Maybe we'll let people here it someday." [Listen To Full Answer]
'Be Somebody'
"We have a song called 'Use Somebody' and a song called 'Be Somebody'. We were a little stuck! We had to write it quick before Glastonbury!" [Listen To Full Answer]
'Cold Desert'
"This almost didn't make it on the record... We only played it one time ever." [Listen To Full Answer]
